Honda's Prologue EV will be the first all-electric Honda built in partnership with General Motors. We can guarantee it will be the first in a long line of new models designed in partnership with American auto giant General Motors including electric versions of the Civic, Accord and CR-V to follow.

All-New, All-Electric Honda Prologue SUV

An all-new, all-electric SUV by Honda is slated to be named the Prologue and it’s the first co-venture between Honda and General Motors. It will use GM’s Ultium battery packs that are in use on the Chevy Blazer EV. Industry insiders say that the Prologue will also share other components from the Chevy Blazer EV, including everything from suspension and electric motors to the infotainment system. The new SUV will be larger than the Honda CR-V crossover featuring a sleek design, 21-inch wheels and a panoramic sunroof.

Inside the cabin, expect the Prologue to borrow from current Honda interiors including a large infotainment touchscreen, a stylish dashboard and console all pivoted slightly toward the driver. Driving range is likely to be 300 miles or better. It is slated to hit showrooms in early 2024 with a starting MSRP in the $45,000 range.

Honda has not commented on trim levels as of yet, but we’d guess it will follow the traditional Honda LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring variants that the automaker is known for. Likewise, Honda has not released information on the electric motor configurations or the size of the battery pack, but we’ve been told that the wheelbase is eight inches longer and five inches wider than the CR-V adding more cargo room and a more family-friendly spacious interior. It will also be available with all-wheel drive.

Early photos of the Prologue show images of a 11.3-inch touchscreen inside offering the latest wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-dash navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless smartphone charging pad. You can also expect the very latest in safety and driver assist technology including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with blind spot monitoring and more.

Honda says it is moving forward with plans to introduce 30 new EV models by 2030 targeting the sale of two million units worldwide. The automaker has announced that it plans to switch over completely to electric vehicles by 2040. Because the recent federal Infrastructure Relief Act offers incentives for production of EVs and components stateside, Honda will build a new battery production facility in North America.

The Los Angeles-based designers of the Prologue call it “neo-rugged”, with a no nonsense, squared off simple design in a package that Honda says will offer adventures “inside and outside the city limits.” One look at early photos of the Prologue shows it squatting low and lean on the tarmac, making any true off-roading pretty much impossible. It’s a city car that will make it to grandma’s house… as long as she lives on a paved street.

The Prologue is the first in a line of all-electric Hondas in joint development with GM that will include EV versions of the Civic, Accord, and CR-V.
